Diamond Education

Discover the Beauty Behind Every Stone

Diamonds have captivated the world for centuries — symbols of love, legacy, and timeless elegance.
Understanding the basics helps you choose a diamond with clarity and confidence.

At Harmony Diamonds, we go beyond the standard. Our education experience empowers you to appreciate the artistry, rarity, and science behind every stone.

The 4Cs: What Defines a Diamond’s Value

1. Cut — The Heart of a Diamond’s Sparkle

The cut determines how brilliantly a diamond reflects light.
Among all the 4Cs, Cut is the most important because it directly influences brilliance, fire, and sparkle.
The round brilliant cut — the world’s most popular shape — typically features 57 facets, perfectly angled to maximise light return.
A well-cut diamond will look brighter, livelier, and more beautiful, regardless of its size or colour grade.

What to Look For
Triple Excellent (EX/EX/EX) grading from GIA
(Cut, Polish, Symmetry — all rated Excellent)Smooth, mirror-like facets
Perfectly aligned symmetry that creates the Hearts & Arrows patternAt Harmony Diamonds, only Triple Excellent centre stones meet our internal standards — ensuring the finest sparkle in every piece.

Carat measures the weight of a diamond, not its face-up size. Larger diamonds are much rarer, which is why price increases exponentially as carat weight goes up.

A size chart helps show the relationship between carat weight and millimetre diameter.

Buying Guidance
Avoid diamonds cut too “deep” or too “shallow” — they hide weight but lose brilliance.
Popular carat ranges:
Rings: 0.50–3.00ct
Earrings: 0.30–2.00ct
Pendants: 1.00ct+
Diamonds priced just under full-carat marks (e.g., 0.99ct) offer
excellent value.
If size is a priority, you may balance colour or clarity — but never sacrifice Cut.

3. Clarity — Nature’s Fingerprint

Clarity refers to natural features inside or on the surface of a diamond. These may be tiny crystals, feathers, or marks — most of which are invisible
without magnification.
Harmony Diamonds focuses on high-quality clarity grades to ensure beauty and durability.

Clarity Grades You Should Know

Buying Guidance

Choose an eye-clean diamond — one with no visible imperfections to the naked eye.

Our gemmologists will guide you through selecting a clarity grade that suits your expectations and budget.

4. Colour — The Shade That Defines Style

White diamonds are graded on the absence of colour, from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow/brown).
The less colour a diamond has, the rarer and more valuable it is.
